This is the first time in 72 years that the IGA Carols by Candlelight for Variety will be a FREE EVENT!

Event Timing

  • 1:00pm: Family Fun Fair with show rides, face painting, food stalls and fun activities for the kids. 
  • 4:30pm: Onstage pre-show entertainment begins:  Marvels Avengers, WASAMBA - Freo’s Carnivale Drummers and more! 
  • 7:15pm: Carols begin
  • 9:15pm: Fireworks spectacular over the Swan River

About the Performers

Anthony Callea

No stranger to chart-topping success, Anthony launched his career in 2004 with debut single ‘The Prayer’.  ‘The Prayer’ became the fastest-selling single by an Australian artist with sales in excess of 4 x platinum and an incredible 5-week ARIA Singles chart-topping run. His 2005 self-titled release claimed double-platinum accreditation and held the ARIA Album chart Number 1 position for 3 weeks.

Since then Anthony has developed a reputation as one of Australia’s great entertainers, playing countless live shows across the country, and alongside some of the world most talented vocalists including Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross and fellow Australian, Tina Arena.

WASAMBA - Freo's Carnivale Drummers

What do you get when you combine LOUD Rio-Style percussion, a panoply of rainbow-hued circus samba costumes and the collective joy of many impassioned community members? The performance phenomenon that is Wasamba!! Wasamba is a community driven drumming group and is a unique meld of drumming, dancing, theatre, circus and "portable party" that will have you dancing in no time!

Variety Youth Choir

For more than 16 years, the Variety Youth Choir has been entertaining audiences whilst enriching the lives of its many talented young performers. The choir helps increase the self-confidence and skills of its members, who have come together from a diverse range of backgrounds and abilities. A passion for song and dance unites the choir, who remain one of WA’s busiest professional young performance groups.

About the Hosts

Louise Momber

Louise Momber is a presenter and producer with Nine News, Perth. She has been part of the news team for 8 years - starting out as a senior reporter. Louise has grown up in Perth and loves being involved in community events like tonight's Carols by Candlelight for Variety, WASO Symphony in the City, Lion's Children of Courage Awards and various fundraising events which she's very passionate about. This is Louise's 9th consecutive time hosting Carols by Candlelight - her favourite event of the year. 

Michael Thomson

Michael Thomson is a sports presenter with Nine News, Perth. During his time at Channel Nine, Michael has covered the Olympic Games in Atlanta and Sydney, AFL Grant Finals, the Australian Grand Prix and commentated on Sheffield Shield and One Day Cricket. In 2000 Michael was awarded the Australian Sports Medal for his services to sport as well as receiving the WA Clear Speech Award on several occasions. 2016 will be Michael's first year hosting the IGA Carols by Candlelight for Variety alongside Channel Nine's Louise Momber.

 

Carols Merchandise

The IGA Carols by Candlelight for Variety goodie bags will be sale at a cost of only $10 for a double bag (2 people) and $15 for a family bag (4 people). The goodie bags are jam packed full of fantastic products including LED wrist bands, LED candles, song books, water bottles, colouring crayons, tattoos and discount vouchers! 

A twin pack of 1 x LED candle and 1 x Carols song book will also be available to purchase for $2.

Every dollar raised from the sale of merchandise will go directly to Variety – the Children’s Charity of WA to help empower kids who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs.
